Have you ever been on a diet? Well I have- a lot actually. I have lost pounds and gained them back. Gained more than what I lost, this was disheartening. I have skipped meals, eaten just salads, biscuits and little bits of what-not that have the lowest calorie content. Yes, I lost 10 pounds but a few weeks later gained 15! That for you is a yo-yo diet which falls under fad diets.

Let me tell you more about it. Yo-yo dieting is when you skips meals and eat very low calorie meals. Starving oneself is not the way to go. You might lose a few pounds which you might think is successful but eventually gain them all back and then some more. This kind of personal diet will eventually take its toll on the body.

The fact is, yo-yo dieting is unhealthy. The body, when subjected to starvation causes loss of both body fat and muscle. The body then loses energy and becomes weak. This may cause more problems. The other effect of this diet may also be depression due to the fact that it gets harder to lose each time.

What I recommend is a healthy personal diet plan coupled with exercise for weight loss. Eating lots of vegetables and fruits and just the right amount of protein. Stay away from fast food, the calorie loaded French fries, fried chicken and other deep-fried goodies. It’s just a matter of control and right portions. Do not subject your body to extreme measures that fad diets promise to give. Love yourself, feed it right, and treat it right.

Let me give you some realistic tips to losing weight:

  • Exercise! This builds muscle that helps burn.
  • Do not skip breakfast as this is the most important meal of the day have a realistic weight loss goal that you know you can achieve.
  • Try to eat healthy meals and stay away from too much sugar.
  • Treat your body right, doing this can only mean great things for you.
  • A healthy body means a healthier and happier you.

And last find the right diet that will suit your lifestyle.
